Pondering Makeup Rehab

Posted by: Ms. Falade on: April 21, 2010

We all know that true beauty comes from within, but that doesn’t prevent us from valuing physical beauty. While I aspire to be a beautiful person both inside and out, my desire for physical beauty sometimes is unsettling because I have a strong dependence on makeup and I have a lot of it.

I used to wear makeup six out of the seven days in a week, Monday through Friday for work and on Sundays to church. So far, I have NEVER gone to work without makeup. I’d rather be late, which is a rarity for me. I mean talk about extreme.

It takes me about 5 minutes max to apply a full-face of makeup. A full-face for me means concealer to cover bags and slight discoloration, foundation to even my skin tone, powder smooth it all out, black eye pencil to underline my eye giving shape and definition, liquid eyeliner to make my eyes pop, mascara for the same effect, and light lip-gloss for a complete day-time look. I have it all down to a science and I promise I don’t look like a freak.

All Smiles With Makeup

Makeup gives me a confidence boost. I feel beautiful with it on. Now I know the makeup doesn’t make me pretty and it only enhances my true beauty but I’d be lost without it.

One time I misplaced my MAC concealer for a week and the entire time I obsessed over it. Could anyone notice the bags under my eyes? Did I appear disheveled? Another time, my Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner fell into the garbage in a female restroom and I dug through nastiness to rescue it from the trash. I found it at the very bottom of bin. That unpleasant experience that made me wonder if I needed to go to makeup rehab.

I don’t think I’m addict. I just would prefer not to be seen without it. Whenever I do go out sans makeup I feel self conscious. Not sure if that’s normal, but that how it is for me. Maybe I’ve watched one too many beauty commercials and I’m now a believer. Who knows?

Well before I head to rehab here’s a peek inside my makeup case. I’ve listed my must-haves below. Be sure to let me know what you have, love and especially if you try anything off my list. XOXO

Woahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! That is intense, but at least you look good and natural, never fake. If it makes you happy, then okay, but I thinks better to get to a place where you don’t feel you need it. I could go on and on about all these social issues, but physics and biochem are screaming my name & some 4 letter words… ahahha!!! but yeah. You’re beautiful and that picture is OhSoPretty!!! Digging through a trashcan is a little redic! Actually, I won’t lie.. actually its not a little it’s WTF?!?!!?! Was that necessary, isn’t eyeliner like $2?! I hardly ever wear make up, NEVER to school, because I could really care less, see my natural face, boo! I will keep my those 5 minutes of life doing something else. hahhahahahahaha

Do you ever indulge in eyelash “extentions”?

P.S– I LOVE THE NEW LAYOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, I’ve tried eyelash extensions. I almost ripped my eyelids off plucking them off the next day. It was traumatic. But then again I went the cheap route maybe next I’ll go for the real deal. BTW, the eyeliner was $24 and I had only used it once. That alone was motivation for me to go dumpster diving.

Ummm…TRUST ME! I feel the same way about my makeup! I can’t go anywhere without it…I used to apply a litttttttle bit even before going to the gym and my brother would think I was crazy. Maybe I am, but I don’t care. I just like the idea that everything is even; no dark spot, no pimple scar, and etc…Of course, I have yet to apply makeup as nice as you do, but I’ll get there one day, hehe :)

You look fab Seyi!I’ve started replacing make-up with just coconut oil and my skin is loving it. When I do go out I just use MAC concealer, Revlon mineral powder, eyeliner, mascara and rosebud salve lip gloss.

Aww, thanks! That photo was taken at 5 am on my way to the airport. Funny you should mention coconut oil I just bought some this week for my hair. Love it.

!?!?$%^&* YOU DRESSED UP and wore make up for the airport?! At 5am! Dangggggggggg…. more power to ya! NYC life sounds crazy.
